The Little Shed

The Little Shed

In January 2018, Sherry McCoun was giving her customer, the national sausage icon of Purnell’s Old Folks Country Sausage, Al Purnell, his regular haircut.  Sherry asked Al if he had a place where her business could move the business to.  He responded, “I don’t know. I will get back to you.”  Al called Sherry later that day and said, “Meet me tomorrow behind the historic Old Stone Inn restaurant at that little shed.”

The next day, Sherry and Al met.  Sherry surveyed the shed.  It had a very low ceiling, concrete floors, no running water, and an outdated electrical system, dating back to 1941. Previously, it had a wood-burning stove and was possibly used for a farrier’s shop. It had most recently been used to hold miscellaneous junk.  None of this deterred Sherry one bit.  Al and Sherry had a good talk and Al said he’d get back with her; he needed to get some figures together.  After a week or two, Sherry got the phone call – it was “a go.” With a handshake, the shed’s transformation began.

Stripping the interior down to the lath boards, the shed was soon transformed into a beautiful modern salon where Sherry and her long-time business partner, Ronda Dees, could continue their hairdressing skills.  The salon’s shutters were even made from old wooden fence boards taken from Mr. Purnell’s farm.

In the end, it led Mr. Purnell to proclaim success using his trademark “It’s Gooo-od!”
